Please visit www.TakeChargeAmerica.org, a non-profit debt consolidation company that will advise you and help you pay off your debt, rearrange your financial priorites for your own good. I wouldn't tell you to do anything I wouldn't do. DID YOU KNOW if you settle with a credit card company and the debt forgiven is over $600 umm... YOU WILL BE T.A.X.E.D ON THAT MONEY NOT PAID BACK, PLUS THE SETTLEMENT WILL SHOW UP ON YOUR CREDIT FOR 7-10 yrs. If your debt exceeds your income that may not be the case for you.
Don't rush, read the fine print, there is no government bail out for most of these companies claiming it is1 The point is to seek education and ask lotsssss  of questions. Point in case, between my husband and I we have 4 credit cards with 4 different interest rates, due 4 different times of the month and not even 1/3 was going to the actual debt. I contacted the company mentioned above and when I consolidated,  the credit card companies automatically reduced our  interest rates by 50% or more. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So my 13.24% interest rate with Chase is now 0%, my 15.99% interest rate is now 2% etc, which means more of my money is going to payoff the debt. There is ONE payment that will have us debt free quickly and will show creditors we PAY OUR BILLS. Don't panic and wipe out your 401K or 203B or refinance your home or get a Home Equity Loan, take a deep breath, consider a second job, who cares if your neighbors see you stocking at the local grocery store.
I recommend visiting this website and there are others but always check out a company on the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission. BUT don't settle if you can help it. Questions/Comments?
***These are my opinions and I have good credit.
