As a local Houston REALTOR, I always say — this city doesn’t slow down, even when summer starts winding down. Whether you're looking for fun with the family, date night ideas, or just want to explore your own backyard before fall kicks in, here are some end-of-summer events to catch around H-Town.
Festivals & Pop-Ups You’ll Love
Houston Restaurant Weeks
? Now through Sept 1
This is hands-down one of the best foodie events of the year. Over 200 restaurants are offering special menus ($25 lunches and $39–$55 dinners), with a portion going to the Houston Food Bank. It’s the perfect excuse to check out places like Brett’s BBQ, Perry’s, or Astor Farm to Table — and give back while you eat.
Houston Horror Film Fest – Aug 8–10
Love indie horror? This three-day fest features film screenings, celebrity guests, and late-night panels. A fun weekend for movie lovers and Halloween fans who want to get spooky a little early.
International Medieval Combat World Cup – Late August
Yes, this is a real thing! Full-on sword fights, medieval vendors, and immersive action. It’s like stepping into a Game of Thrones episode right in Houston.
Houston Bat Walks & Cruises – Ongoing through October
Take a guided tour or boat ride to watch thousands of bats take flight at dusk under the Waugh Drive bridge. It’s one of Houston’s most unique natural sights — perfect for families or out-of-town guests.
The Weeknd – Aug 30–31 @ NRG
He’s back! His “After Hours Til Dawn” tour is hitting Houston with two shows that are sure to sell out. Expect massive visuals and a great night out.
Kali Uchis – Sept 2 @ Toyota Center
If you’re into Latin, R&B, or dreamy vocals, don’t miss her “Sincerely, Tour” stop right in the heart of Downtown.
Rosebud Baker Comedy – Sept 18–20 @ Bayou Music Center
One of comedy’s fastest-rising voices brings her wit to Houston for three nights of laughs.
Sound & Motion – Sept 19 @ Miller Outdoor Theatre
Free outdoor performance combining music and modern dance under the stars. A great cultural night without breaking the bank.
Houston Texans Kickoff – Sept 7 @ NRG vs Rams
Football is back! Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just love tailgating, this season opener is always a great time.
Bayou City Art Festival – Mid-September
Downtown streets come alive with hundreds of artists, food vendors, and live music. It’s a great way to enjoy cooler weather and support local talent.
Japan Festival – Sept 6–7 @ Hermann Park
A longtime favorite with cultural performances, food stalls, bonsai demos, and martial arts — it’s a beautiful way to experience Japanese culture.
Untitled Art Fair – Sept 19–21 @ GRB
One of Houston’s rising contemporary art showcases. If you like edgy, creative, or international art — check it out.
Theatre Under the Stars – All Month @ Miller Outdoor Theatre
Catch a free musical in the park — a Houston tradition for over 50 years. Pack a blanket and snacks and enjoy the show.
Wicked Wine Run – Sept 20
Run a 5K, sip some wine, dress up if you want — it’s a fun mix of fitness and festivity. Yes, wine is included.
Pasadena Rodeo – Sept 23–Oct 1
From mutton bustin’ to live concerts and carnival rides, this rodeo has it all. A true Texas way to end the summer.
Fall Festival @ Sugar Land Town Square – Sept 20
Think pumpkins, hayrides, and seasonal treats. Great for kids or a cute date afternoon.
Dewberry Farm Fall Fest – Open now through Nov
Explore flower fields, corn mazes, and weekend wine tastings. It's one of my favorite day trips just outside Houston.
