When I first moved to The Woodlands there was not many restaurants on this end of The Woodlands. You had to travel back toward the front of The Woodlands or over to Tomball/Magnolia area. After 16 years there are many more choices within 1 mile of May Valley.
This month I visited Ruah Cafe (next to Gringos). The menu has many different international dishes. They serve breakfast and lunch from 8-4pm. Today I tried the Touluse. It was a combination of sweet and savory. It was really good. I tried their cappuccino as well, and it was excellent. My wife tried their Chai Tea Latte and it met her approval. She is a tough critic of Chai. We were told their Chai is unique and likely not found at any other restaurant or coffee shop. I highly recommend you give them a try for breakfast or lunch soon.
During November 2025, I tried the food at Blue Lion Pub on Ashlane Drive about 1 mile from May Valley. We had breakfast and the portions were plentiful. You could even split a plate and be satisfied. They serve lunch and dinner as well. In the evening the restaurant changes into a bar scene and some nights there is a band playing. I would give this place a try.
During October 2025, I tried food at Panicafe located in the shopping center with Gringo's and Sapporo. Panicafe has taken over the former location of Hummingbird Cafe. They serve coffee, tea, sandwiches, salads, sweet pastries and zesty pastries. If you like coffee, they serve 10 different types. I tried the cappuccino and it was delicious. On the zesty side I tried their breakfast sausage with a nice flaky crust. On the sweet side I tried their scone and enjoyed it. If you want to have high tea, they have an assortment of choices for any size tea party. Give Panicafe a try you will be glad you did.
During September 2025, I tried a new pizza restaurant called Emiliano's Pizzeria next to the Republic Grille. They sell pizza by the slice, so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and was amazed at the flavors and the light crust. Recently I ordered their Greek salad and a large cheese pizza and I recommend giving them a try the next time you want pizza nearby.
If you are a coffee drinker, than you might frequent Starbucks in front of Walmart. If you are looking for French causal food (breakfast/lunch), then the La Francesita Gourmet Bakery across from Walmart should be your choice. They actually speak French. If Mexican food is your appetite, Gringos should sastisfy. The place is always packed so plan accordingly. One of my favorite places is The Republic Grille. They have everything on their menu from salads to steak, to chicken, and fish. It is a bit more expensive, but the food taste great.
There are some specialty restaurants too. If you want Japanese, than check out Sapporo Japanese Bistro Sushi Bar. If you want authentic Mexican cuisine, then try Caffe Di Fiore across from Walmart. Mei Wei is a locally owned Chinese restaurant near The Republic Grille. It is not a chain restaurant. If you don't see people at the tables don't be alarmed. They do a huge take-out business. If you do dine-in the service is great and so is the food.
Rounding out the list is the usual fast food places. We now have a Dairy Queen and I find myself going there at night a little too often. Whataburger is a Texas favorite, and if you don't like just mustard don't forget to ask for ketchup or mayo on your burger. Subway is between Mei Wei and Republic Grille. There is a doughnut shop between Exxon and Cafe Di Fiore, and a new doughnut shop out the back way to our neighborhood (this is what we call the entrance on FM 2978 and Greenmoor) on Hardin Store Road. Also, there is a family owned pizza joint next to the doughnut shop on Hardin Store Road called Pizzaioli's and the pizza is great and so is the owner. They have gluten free pizza on the menu. If you like red sauce ask for extra on your pizza.
If you have eaten at any of these restaurants and want to share your comments, please do. Let me know if I missed any as well. I think it is important to support our local restaurants, or they will move. We finally have choices, so let's use them.
