Understanding Property Taxes in Easton Park
Since Easton Park is growing fast and many new buyers are joining the community, I wanted to share a quick tax check-in for homeowners and prospective buyers.
What to know:
For much of Easton Park, the total property tax rate is ~ 2.53%-2.63% of your home's appraised value. (Exact rate depends on which MUD or phase of the community your house is in.)
Because the community includes a MUD (Municipal Utility District) with extra infrastructure/utility costs, your tax/assessment burden might be higher than that of older built-out neighborhoods.
To check your specific tax bill or see how your home is appraised: visit the Travis County Tax Office site for your tax account, and use TCAD for appraisal/exemption info.
Don't forget: if you qualify for homestead, disability, or over-65 exemptions, be sure you've submitted the paperwork these can lower your taxable value.
Tip for buyers/new homeowners: When you're looking at a home in Easton Park, ask the seller or listing agent for the recent tax bill. That gives you a realistic sense of your annual cost, beyond just the mortgage.
Deadlines & reminders:
Taxes are due by Jan 31 for the year in Travis County.
If you see a massive jump in your appraisal or tax bill from one year to the next, ask why new construction, added amenities, changed zoning, or a higher MUD assessment could be the cause.
If you need help reviewing a tax bill, understanding how Texas exemptions work, or comparing Easton Park's tax burden to other Austin neighborhoods, I'm happy to help.
