WSU Social Work & Service-Learning students, in partnership with the POWER CDC, is excited to announce Share the Love: An evening of music with Rudy Love, Sr., special guests and screening of The Love Story.  The event is a fundraiser for the Historic Dunbar Theatre restoration campaign. The event will be hosted at the Abode Venue on Final Friday, May 27, 2016 from 7-10 pm and will include live music from Rudy Love, Sr., silent auction, meet and greet with artists, DJ Christophilus of KSUN 95.9 Escape Radio, cash bar, and includes special guests and MC.   Dunbar Historic Theatre: Wichita's African-American community has seen much of its physical past forgotten, condemned and/or razed over the years, leaving the city and its people with precious few connections to its own history. The Dunbar Theater, once the crown jewel of the McAdams neighborhood, was built in 1941 and closed in 1957; had it not been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, it almost certainly would have been lost forever. We, as proud Wichitans, wish to contribute in whatever way we can to its restoration, in hopes that future generations may enjoy it, and that perhaps its rebirth will serve as a catalyst for revitalization of the Dunbar District as an arts and business based community destination. http://www.historicdunbartheatre.org/ Rudy Love & The LOVE Story: Rudy Love, native Wichitan, is a founding member of the band Rudy Love & the Love Family and has been a demo vocalist for Motown West and South. He was the bandleader and manager for Sly Stone for 10 years. Bethany College faculty member Shawn Rhodes along with John Alexander from Harvard are producing the documentary film about Rudy Love and his family’s music industry story. Rudy is currently involved in multiple creative projects and performing his own captivating music. https://vimeo.com/148755536
