I'm looking to move to Houston in December.I'm looking for a garage apartment close to town.Between 600 and 700 but I see many high luxury apartments.Would it be best to hire a realtor?
Good morning! While I’m sure this is not the answer you would expect from a Realtor, the nest way to find super affordable garage apartments is to drive around and look for the little red ‘for rent’ signs posted by an individual owner. The Heights and Montrose are two neighborhoods that have a lot of people leasing out their garage apts or extra units this way. Have you been able to settle down somewhere yet?

There several garage apartments that are Perfect for boarders, independent teenagers or guests needing privacy, garage apartments offer a unique way to expand the number of bedrooms in a floor plan. Or, you could go the other direction and create a quiet and secluded home office. These plans all contain heated living space above a garage, often with full plumbing and even kitchen space. Best is to drive around and look for signs. Alot of those folks do not have to advertise. The apts (small complex) I lived in just about had a waiting list through word of mouth. My place was rented less than 2 days after I informed the LL I bought a house and was moving out. Rate this post positively
Garage Apartments do exist but most will be found closer to Downtown area. Some Homeowners also offer rooms for rent. Garage apartments are not always advertised on HAR so having a Realtor in your corner is best. I recommend you contact a licensed realtor to assist you with your rental needs. Our services are free to you when we represent you as a tenant. Have you considered an efficiency apartment? I can also assist you by providing an apartment referral. Please contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Garage apartments are rather unique and not many homes have them. When you say you're looking "between 600 and 700"- do you mean square feet or rent dollars? Most apartments closeer to downtown Houston will run at least $1200-$1400 minimum (and upwards). There are several condos and townhomes available little further out for rent under $1000.
Hiring a Realtor is free to tenants, so if you're new to the area, I suggest you hire one, as they'll be able to better help you locate a suitable place. Thank you,
