Suggestions on buying a Investment / Rental property in or around Katy

I need some help for buying a Rental property in Katy area. I currently live in Cinco Ranch and am thinking about buying 2nd home as an investment which I plan to give on rent. My target is to keep the house for 10~15 years and my budget is 220K to 250k. I'm thinking about putting around 20% down and 80% loan.Can someone suggest a good area which can give maximum return on my investment and maximum chance of getting the property on rent.

Hi Sangeet,
There are a ton of good options for this. There is a pretty good pocket at the border of Katy and Cypress hovering from 529/Fry up to I-10 that has amazing potential. You can typically pick up great deals and maintain higher rents. You may also want to look into lower value homes that will rent quicker, may need a little work. You could potentially pick up 2 rental homes for around the same price and have more in rental income than 1 home at the price point you are comfortable with. You may also be in a position to refinance or take out a loan on your existing home in order to be able to purchase the others in cash, giving you a stronger buying position as well as opening doors to homes that may need some work that may not qualify under traditional mortgage avenues.

I would recommend getting a good estimate of how much a house will rent for, in subdivisions of Katy or other areas you have interest in. Use the FOR RENT tool on Har.com to see how many houses are current on the market as well. If there are only 2 available in an area and they are filled quickly, that could be a great sign. If there are 16 houses , with high DOM ( days on market) be wary.
