Can I list my own house for sale on this site?

If you are a realtor. If not, you'll need one.

Great question. Unlike sites like Zillow, Craigslist and others, HAR is the Multiple Listing Service for licensed Realtors. Posting a For Sale By Owner is not available on this site.

There are websites like ForSaleByOwner.com where you can do such a thing. Just keep in mind that you'll be doing all the work yourself, like taking calls, scheduling showings, receiving offers, letting agents, inspectors, appraisers and others in the house(takes up a ton of time), negotiating potential repairs, negotiating potential price reductions if appraisal comes in lower, finding the right Title company, etc. There is a lot of work that comes with a real estate transaction.

Also, most buyers will come represented by a Real Estate Agent(buyer's agent) and that agent will be seeking compensation for their service...compensation paid by the seller.

As others have informed you this site (HAR.com) is for members of the Houston Association of REALTORs. To have as many buyers find your home as possible I would encourage you to list your home with a REALTOR. You will get top dollar for you home and won't have the hassle of handling every step in the process. Let an experienced professional lead you through the process. It will be a much smoother and quicker process.

Doing a "for-sale-by-owner" isn't done through HAR. However, there are some real estate companies that do limited listings. (I'm sure the fee would be lower than for a full service listing, but I don't know details.) The agent lists the property, but instead of the agent being contacted for questions about the house and showings, you would be the one that gets contacted. If that sounds like something that would interest you, I will be happy to search for some of these companies for you. I don't take listings, so I cannot offer to list your home. (I am an Exclusive Buyer Agent; only work with home buyers, not sellers.) Please let me know if you would like my help finding one of these types of companies.

Hi Derona,

Only a licensed real estate agent or broker can list your house on HAR. Work with a Realtor: he/she will put your interest above his by abiding the regulations and be honest to the third parties. Your house will sell for top dollar and shortest time with Realtors. Your listing will get the highest exposure in HAR and you will have serious buyers.
