I have known several who have with quite good success. Realtor must be confident in ability and look at the home with the same criteria they would a clients, IE, take out the personal attachment and look at the home as if you haven't lived there. Get it in optimal showing condition, repair any issues before the inspector sees them and price it right. A good realtor, selling their own home, should be no different than the advice they would give to a client selling theirs. If you are successful selling others, you'll be successful selling yours.
Any realtor I know does sell their own home. Their success really has to do with their skill in selling homes in general. Hiring professional photographers, staging the home for the market and pricing the home appropriately all come into play. I always advise clients how to present the home for showings; however, their personal attachment to their home can get in the way. For example, not wanting to declutter because of personal meaning of the items. As a professional, a realtor can most likely detach from that. My personal home sold in one day slightly below asking price which was at the high end. I was essential in that situation as I was able to answer all questions about the home. Let me know if you need anything else.
Good question! Some brokers will not allow their real estate agents sell their own homes due to Errors and Omissions insurance. With that said, we have been successful in our past selling a previous home. We made sure it was staged and showed like a model. We needed to be the example!! As we go forward we would not list our own home!
I'm not sure how many, I haven't heard of a whole lot of luck. I know that there have to be plenty out there! There are a lot of factors though. What market area are you in? Right now we have an increased inventory of homes. With so many homes on the market you have to be priced really well! This also depends on what price bracket you are in. My broker listed his home for sale, it sat for a while. His son convinced him to list with him and reduce the price. It sold a week later. ($625k) It depends on your motivation, to sell your home. I absolutely do not reccomend representing the buyer/ or allowing a buyer to purchase without representation from another agent. Be honest, price your home right and it should sell! Another lady I tried to list, had listed for two years, with 3 different agents. She went and got her real estate license and listed it herself. It originally was listed at $1.2M now $799k. It is still active, she has now had it listed for 89 days. I have also called Expired's, who responded I am an agent. Best of luck to you! Hope this helps.
Funny question Robert. I would hope the answer would be ALL OF THEM!!!
That being said, Realtors selling their own homes need to check in with their Brokers and their E & O Insurance provider to make sure they do everything properly so they are protected. Always good to "have the teacher" check your work before the home goes on the market.
