Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Zwink Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Kohrville Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Zwink Elementary School has a regular student population of 877 with a 15.1 students/teacher ratio while Kohrville Elementary School has 725 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.9 students/teacher ratio.
Zwink Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 78 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Kohrville Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 78 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 79 in closing performance gaps and 85 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Zwink Elementary School and Kohrville Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Zwink Elementary School. They make up for 47.09% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (28.39%), African Americans (15.39%), Two or More Races (5.25%), Asians (3.31%) and Native Americans (0.46%).
The student population at Kohrville Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 49.79%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.66%), African Americans (14.76%), Two or More Races (5.52%), Asians (3.59%) and Native Americans (0.41%).
Based on household incomes, the Zwink Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 53.48% compared to 59.59% at Kohrville Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Zwink Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 26.80% of its student population compared to 17.38% at Kohrville Elementary School.
Zwink Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 35.80%, gifted and talented students, 3.31%, while 15.85% are in the special education program. Kohrville Elementary School bilingual students comprise 17.79%, gifted and talented students, 3.17%, and 12.69% are in the special education program.
58 teachers employed at Zwink Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years. The 56 teachers at Kohrville Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 8.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Zwink Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 24 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 18 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers. Kohrville Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has 11 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, four teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 17 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Zwink Elementary School there are 56 female teachers and two male teachers.
