Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Zwink Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Kaiser Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Zwink Elementary School has a regular student population of 877 with a 15.1 students/teacher ratio while Kaiser Elementary School has 683 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.5 students/teacher ratio.
Zwink Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 78 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Kaiser Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 75 in student achievement, 92 in school progress, 80 in closing performance gaps and 88 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Kaiser Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Zwink Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Zwink Elementary School. They make up for 47.09% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (28.39%), African Americans (15.39%), Two or More Races (5.25%), Asians (3.31%) and Native Americans (0.46%).
At Kaiser Elementary School, Hispanics make up 80.97% of student population, followed by African Americans (11.57%), Asians (2.64%), Whites or Caucasians (2.34%), Native Americans (1.46%) and Two or More Races (1.02%).
Based on household incomes, the Zwink Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 53.48% compared to 87.26% at Kaiser Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Zwink Elementary School has 235 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.80% of student population. Kaiser Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 393 or about 57.54% of student population.
Zwink Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 35.80%, gifted and talented students, 3.31%, while 15.85% are in the special education program. Kaiser Elementary School bilingual students comprise 62.37%, gifted and talented students, 0.59%, and 12.01% are in the special education program.
58 teachers employed at Zwink Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years. The 59 teachers at Kaiser Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 5.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 7.7 years.
Of its teaching staff, Zwink Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 24 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 18 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers. Kaiser Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Zwink Elementary School there are 56 female teachers and two male teachers. Of its teaching staff, ten special education teachers are being assisted by 14 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and five more working as school support staff.
At Kaiser Elementary School there are 52 female teachers and seven male teachers. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by 11 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
