Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Woodcreek Middle School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, with Timberwood Middle School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Woodcreek Middle School’s regular student population is 1,801 with a 16.3 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Timberwood Middle School is 1,181 students and a 15.3 students/teacher ratio.
Woodcreek Middle School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 75 in student achievement, 63 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 75 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Timberwood Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 70 in student achievement, 58 in school progress, 63 in closing performance gaps and 68 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Woodcreek Middle School and Timberwood Middle School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Woodcreek Middle School. They make up for 40.09% of student population, followed by Hispanics (34.70%), Whites or Caucasians (17.43%), Asians (4.33%), Two or More Races (2.89%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
The student population at Timberwood Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 41.32%, followed by African Americans (27.35%), Whites or Caucasians (26.16%), Asians (2.29%), Two or More Races (2.03%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
Based on household incomes, the Woodcreek Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 42.31% compared to 46.32% at Timberwood Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Woodcreek Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 7.66% of its student population compared to 7.11% at Timberwood Middle School.
In addition, Woodcreek Middle School has 6.55% bilingual students, 8.88% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.66% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Timberwood Middle School with 6.44% bilingual students, 9.06% gifted and talented students and 11.60% students in the special education program.
