Westside High School’s regular student population is 2,931 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.7 students/teacher ratio. The student population at H S For Law And Justice is 439 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17 students/teacher ratio.
Westside High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 81 in student achievement, 84 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 82 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, H S For Law And Justice performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 96 in student achievement, 95 in school progress, 100 in closing performance gaps and 97 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Westside High School’s five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and 25% closing performance gaps. H S For Law And Justice's seven out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Westside High School. They make up for 43.98% of student population, followed by African Americans (32.28%), Whites or Caucasians (14.94%), Asians (6.24%), Two or More Races (1.91%) and Native Americans (0.41%).
At H S For Law And Justice, Hispanics make up 72.21% of student population, followed by African Americans (23.01%), Whites or Caucasians (2.73%), Asians (1.37%), Two or More Races (0.46%) and Native Americans (0.23%).
Based on household incomes, the Westside High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 64.31% compared to 84.74% at H S For Law And Justice.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Westside High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 14.98% of its student population compared to 7.06% at H S For Law And Justice.
In addition, Westside High School has 14.23% bilingual students, 25.93% are in the gifted and talented program, while 6.31% are in the special education program. This stacks up against H S For Law And Justice with 7.74% bilingual students, 32.12% gifted and talented students and 2.28% students in the special education program.
Westside High School's 156 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.3 years. H S For Law And Justice's 25 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 12.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, Westside High School has seven teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 25 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 41 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 33 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 42 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including eight beginning teachers. H S For Law And Justice has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, five teachers have worked for 11-20 years, three teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Westside High School employs 84 female teachers and 72 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, four special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department and 15 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, H S For Law And Justice employs 15 female teachers and ten male teachers. The school also employs one staff members in the school administration department and three more working as school support staff.
