Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only four distinction designations or awards for outstanding performance. For West University Elementary School these are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and post-secondary while Carrillo Elementary School secured in Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at West University Elementary School. They make up for 61.83% of student population, followed by Asians (17.17%), Hispanics (13.08%), Two or More Races (5.87%), African Americans (1.60%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
At Carrillo Elementary School, Hispanics make up 94.47% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (3.42%), African Americans (1.05%), Asians (0.79%) and Two or More Races (0.26%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the West University Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 6.58% compared to 87.89% at Carrillo Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, West University Elementary School has 45 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.00% of student population.
