Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Webb Elementary School, which is a part of MCKINNEY ISD, with Herman Lawson Early Childhood School, which is a part of MCKINNEY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Webb Elementary School has a regular student population of 343 with a 10.5 students/teacher ratio while Herman Lawson Early Childhood School has 444 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.7 students/teacher ratio.
Webb Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Webb Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Herman Lawson Early Childhood School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Webb Elementary School. They make up for 65.60% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (24.20%), African Americans (6.71%), Two or More Races (2.33%), Asians (0.58%) and Native Americans (0.58%).
The student population at Herman Lawson Early Childhood School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 53.83%, followed by African Americans (23.20%), Whites or Caucasians (13.96%), Asians (4.95%), Two or More Races (3.60%) and Native Americans (0.23%).
Based on household incomes, the Webb Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 68.51% compared to 79.50% at Herman Lawson Early Childhood School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Webb Elementary School has 123 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 35.86% of student population. Herman Lawson Early Childhood School has significantly more ELLs at 229 or about 51.58% of student population.
Webb Elementary School 25.07% are in the special education program, 6.41% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 35.86% students. Herman Lawson Early Childhood School has no gifted and talented student, while 21.17% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 51.58% students.
