Waltrip High School’s regular student population is 1,711 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Energized For Stem Academy High School is 653 students and a student-teacher ratio of students/teacher ratio.
Waltrip High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 71 in student achievement, 77 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Waltrip High School’s only distinction designation is in Read/ELA. Energized For Stem Academy High School's seven out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Waltrip High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 77.09% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.67%), Whites or Caucasians (6.90%), Two or More Races (0.70%), Asians (0.41%) and Native Americans (0.23%).
At Energized For Stem Academy High School, Hispanics make up 94.03% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.52%), Asians (1.53%) and Whites or Caucasians (0.92%). There is no Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Waltrip High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 77.09% compared to 98.47% at Energized For Stem Academy High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Waltrip High School has 378 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 22.09% of student population. Energized For Stem Academy High School has significantly more ELLs at 424 or about 64.93% of student population.
Waltrip High School’s bilingual students comprise 20.98%, gifted and talented students, 19.17%, while 11.22% are in the special education program. Energized For Stem Academy High School bilingual students comprise 64.17%, gifted and talented students, 6.13%, and 2.76% are in the special education program.
