As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. High school is when students are given the tools to figure out the paths they want to pursue as adults. There are more subjects and extra-curricular activities that students can choose from. When we compared Vista Ridge High School, which is a part of LEANDER ISD, with Leander High School, which is a part of LEANDER ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Vista Ridge High School’s regular student population is 2,594 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.7 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Leander High School is 2,180 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.1 students/teacher ratio.
Vista Ridge High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 95 in student achievement, 84 in school progress and 84 in closing performance gaps. It scored 92 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Leander High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 77 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Vista Ridge High School's three out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Leander High School’s only distinction designation is in Post-Secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Vista Ridge High School. They make up for 48.73% of student population, followed by Hispanics (25.79%), Asians (15.57%), African Americans (4.74%), Two or More Races (4.70%) and Native Americans (0.27%).
The student population at Leander High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 48.90%, followed by Hispanics (31.38%), Asians (8.21%), African Americans (5.60%), Two or More Races (5.60%) and Native Americans (0.23%).
Based on household incomes, the Vista Ridge High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 16.77% compared to 22.80% at Leander High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Vista Ridge High School has 129 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.97% of student population. Leander High School has slightly more ELLs at 146 or about 6.70% of student population.
Vista Ridge High School’s bilingual students comprise 4.82%, gifted and talented students, 23.55%, while 11.18% are in the special education program. Leander High School bilingual students comprise 6.61%, gifted and talented students, 19.77%, and 12.39% are in the special education program.
Vista Ridge High School's 165 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 14.2 years. Leander High School's 144 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, Vista Ridge High School has ten teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 33 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 46 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 33 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 39 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers. Leander High School has seven teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 22 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 45 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 38 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 29 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Vista Ridge High School employs 103 female teachers and 62 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 29 special education teachers are being assisted by 19 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and 22 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Leander High School employs 88 female teachers and 55 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 25 special education teachers are being assisted by 24 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and 18 more working as school support staff.
