Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Twain Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Read/ELA. Eliot Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Twain Elementary School. They make up for 41.60% of student population, followed by Hispanics (22.44%), Asians (18.21%), African Americans (11.28%), Two or More Races (6.23%) and Native Americans (0.24%).
At Eliot Elementary School, Hispanics make up 98.09% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (0.95%), African Americans (0.57%) and Asians (0.38%). There is no Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Twain Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 16.57% compared to 94.27% at Eliot Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Twain Elementary School has 132 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 15.51% of student population. Eliot Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 267 or about 50.95% of student population.
Twain Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 26.79%, gifted and talented students, 34.08%, while 6.70% are in the special education program. Eliot Elementary School bilingual students comprise 50.38%, gifted and talented students, 6.49%, and 10.88% are in the special education program.
