Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Valley West Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Tinsley Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Tinsley Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 89.72% of student population, followed by African Americans (9.46%), Whites or Caucasians (0.49%), Asians (0.16%) and Two or More Races (0.16%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Valley West Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 58.59% of student population, followed by African Americans (36.56%), Asians (2.35%), Whites or Caucasians (1.76%), Two or More Races (0.59%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
Based on household incomes, Tinsley Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 99.02% compared to 92.36% at Valley West Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Tinsley Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 85.32% of its student population compared to 47.43% at Valley West Elementary School.
Tinsley Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 84.99%, gifted and talented students, 7.34%, while 5.71% are in the special education program. Valley West Elementary School bilingual students comprise 45.96%, gifted and talented students, 6.31%, and 5.87% are in the special education program.
