When we compared Tijerina Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Ross Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Tijerina Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in post-secondary. Ross Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Tijerina Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 98.18% of student population, followed by African Americans (1.22%) and Whites or Caucasians (0.61%). There is no Asians, Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
The student population at Ross Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 50.49%, followed by Hispanics (47.54%), Two or More Races (0.98%), Whites or Caucasians (0.66%) and Asians (0.33%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Tijerina Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 98.48% compared to 96.39% at Ross Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Tijerina Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 61.40% of its student population compared to 30.16% at Ross Elementary School.
Tijerina Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 61.40%, gifted and talented students, 4.86%, while 16.11% are in the special education program. Ross Elementary School bilingual students comprise 25.57%, gifted and talented students, 1.31%, and 11.15% are in the special education program.
