Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Strack Intermediate, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Schindewolf Intermediate, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Strack Intermediate’s regular student population is 1,216 with a 15.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Schindewolf Intermediate is 1,137 students and a 15.5 students/teacher ratio.
Strack Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 85 in student achievement, 83 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. It scored 84 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Schindewolf Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 80 in student achievement, 81 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. For Strack Intermediate this is in Social Studies while Schindewolf Intermediate secured one for Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Strack Intermediate. They make up for 37.75% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (30.18%), African Americans (18.26%), Asians (8.96%), Two or More Races (4.52%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
The student population at Schindewolf Intermediate is also predominantly by Hispanics at 40.55%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.99%), African Americans (17.24%), Asians (7.83%), Two or More Races (4.05%) and Native Americans (0.26%).
Based on household incomes, the Strack Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 45.31% compared to 52.33% at Schindewolf Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Strack Intermediate has 138 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.35% of student population. Schindewolf Intermediate has more ELLs at 148 or about 13.02% of student population.
Strack Intermediate’s bilingual students comprise 11.27%, gifted and talented students, 9.70%, while 11.76% are in the special education program. Schindewolf Intermediate bilingual students comprise 12.49%, gifted and talented students, 8.71%, and 13.28% are in the special education program.
Strack Intermediate's 78 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.2 years. Teachers at Schindewolf Intermediate, numbering 73 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 8.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.1 years.
Of its teaching staff, Strack Intermediate has six teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has ten teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 28 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers. Schindewolf Intermediate has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 14 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Strack Intermediate there are 59 female teachers and 18 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has four staff members in the school administration department and nine more working as school support staff.
At Schindewolf Intermediate there are 49 female teachers and 24 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 14 special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and seven more working as school support staff.
