Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Stockdick Junior High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Cinco Ranch Junior High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Stockdick Junior High School’s regular student population is 1,128 with a 14.7 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Cinco Ranch Junior High School is 1,423 students and a 16 students/teacher ratio.
Stockdick Junior High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 86 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 93 in closing performance gaps. It scored 88 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cinco Ranch Junior High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 94 in student achievement, 92 in school progress, 100 in closing performance gaps and 96 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Stockdick Junior High School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Cinco Ranch Junior High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Stockdick Junior High School. They make up for 48.58% of student population, followed by African Americans (23.94%), Whites or Caucasians (16.84%), Asians (7.54%), Two or More Races (2.84%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
The student population at Cinco Ranch Junior High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 35.21%, followed by Hispanics (29.30%), Asians (23.40%), African Americans (8.50%), Two or More Races (3.37%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, Stockdick Junior High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 47.07% compared to 28.74% at Cinco Ranch Junior High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Stockdick Junior High School has 198 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 17.55% of student population. Cinco Ranch Junior High School has significantly more ELLs at 220 or about 15.46% of student population.
In addition, Stockdick Junior High School has 16.58% bilingual students, 6.29% are in the gifted and talented program, while 16.67% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Cinco Ranch Junior High School with 14.90% bilingual students, 12.58% gifted and talented students and 13.07% students in the special education program.
