When we compared Spring Woods High School, which is a part of SPRING BRANCH ISD, with Northbrook High School, which is a part of SPRING BRANCH ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Spring Woods High School’s regular student population is 2,091 with a student-teacher ratio of 14.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Northbrook High School is 2,622 students and a student-teacher ratio of 19.1 students/teacher ratio.
Spring Woods High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 71 in student achievement, 77 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. It scored 76 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Northbrook High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 64 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, 47 in closing performance gaps and 65 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Spring Woods High School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Northbrook High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Spring Woods High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 85.89% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (6.93%), African Americans (4.93%), Asians (0.86%), Two or More Races (0.81%) and Native Americans (0.57%).
At Northbrook High School, Hispanics make up 90.96% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.97%), Whites or Caucasians (3.01%), Asians (0.99%), Two or More Races (0.57%) and Native Americans (0.46%).
Based on household incomes, Spring Woods High School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 83.02% compared to 80.28% at Northbrook High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Spring Woods High School has 868 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 41.51% of student population. Northbrook High School has significantly more ELLs at 1282 or about 48.89% of student population.
Spring Woods High School’s bilingual students comprise 41.18%, gifted and talented students, 5.40%, while 11.62% are in the special education program. Northbrook High School bilingual students comprise 47.64%, gifted and talented students, 3.20%, and 10.76% are in the special education program.
Spring Woods High School's 147 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.1 years. Northbrook High School's 137 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Spring Woods High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 22 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 45 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 34 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 37 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
