Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Spring Shadows Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Science and 25% closing performance gaps. Sherwood Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Spring Shadows Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 80.06% of student population, followed by African Americans (14.26%), Whites or Caucasians (3.89%), Two or More Races (1.46%) and Asians (0.32%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Sherwood Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 65.96% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (16.43%), African Americans (11.27%), Two or More Races (3.99%), Asians (1.88%) and Native Americans (0.23%).
Based on household incomes, Spring Shadows Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 94.17% compared to 65.02% at Sherwood Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Spring Shadows Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 60.78% of its student population compared to 47.89% at Sherwood Elementary School.
In addition, Spring Shadows Elementary School has 60.62% bilingual students, 1.62% are in the gifted and talented program, while 15.07% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Sherwood Elementary School with 69.95% bilingual students, 5.63% gifted and talented students and 12.91% students in the special education program.
