Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Spring Branch Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Edgewood Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Comparative Academic Growth.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Spring Branch Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 89.87% of student population, followed by African Americans (5.54%), Whites or Caucasians (3.06%), Two or More Races (0.76%), Asians (0.38%) and Native Americans (0.38%).
At Edgewood Elementary School, Hispanics make up 89.00% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (4.25%), African Americans (2.32%), Native Americans (2.12%), Asians (1.54%) and Two or More Races (0.77%).
Based on household incomes, Spring Branch Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 94.46% compared to 90.54% at Edgewood Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Spring Branch Elementary School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 68.83% of its student population compared to 65.83% at Edgewood Elementary School.
In addition, Spring Branch Elementary School has 68.45% bilingual students, 2.49% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.47% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Edgewood Elementary School with 66.02% bilingual students, 4.83% gifted and talented students and 13.51% students in the special education program.
