Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Sonntag Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, with Sparks Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Sonntag Elementary School has a regular student population of 513 with a 12.2 students/teacher ratio while Sparks Elementary School has 713 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.5 students/teacher ratio.
Sonntag Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 86 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 86 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Sparks Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Sonntag Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Sonntag Elementary School. They make up for 38.99% of student population, followed by African Americans (22.22%), Asians (16.37%), Hispanics (14.42%) and Two or More Races (7.80%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Sparks Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 40.95%, followed by Asians (40.11%), Hispanics (11.64%), Two or More Races (4.49%), African Americans (2.52%) and Native Americans (0.28%).
Based on household incomes, Sonntag Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 29.24% compared to 5.05% at Sparks Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Sonntag Elementary School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 11.50% of its student population compared to 7.99% at Sparks Elementary School.
In addition, Sonntag Elementary School has 11.31% bilingual students, 3.12% are in the gifted and talented program, while 15.98% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Sparks Elementary School with 7.57% bilingual students, 7.57% gifted and talented students and 13.04% students in the special education program.
