Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Sienna Crossing Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Colony Bend Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Sienna Crossing Elementary School has a regular student population of 942 with a 15.5 students/teacher ratio while Colony Bend Elementary School has 519 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.6 students/teacher ratio.
Sienna Crossing Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Sienna Crossing Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Colony Bend Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Read/ELA.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Sienna Crossing Elementary School. They make up for 38.43% of student population, followed by Asians (21.44%), Hispanics (16.35%), African Americans (16.24%), Two or More Races (6.69%) and Native Americans (0.64%).
The student population at Colony Bend Elementary School is also predominantly by Asians at 40.27%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (21.00%), Hispanics (18.69%), African Americans (10.79%), Two or More Races (8.67%) and Native Americans (0.58%).
Based on household incomes, the Sienna Crossing Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 14.44% compared to 39.88% at Colony Bend Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Sienna Crossing Elementary School has 87 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 9.24% of student population. Colony Bend Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 191 or about 36.80% of student population.
Sienna Crossing Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 8.92%, gifted and talented students, 5.10%, while 10.72% are in the special education program. Colony Bend Elementary School bilingual students comprise 35.84%, gifted and talented students, 3.47%, and 10.79% are in the special education program.
