Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Scott Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, with Sonntag Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Scott Elementary School has a regular student population of 670 with a 17.6 students/teacher ratio while Sonntag Elementary School has 513 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.2 students/teacher ratio.
Scott Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. It scored 91 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Sonntag Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 86 in student achievement, 86 in school progress, 86 in closing performance gaps and 86 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Scott Elementary School and Sonntag Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Scott Elementary School. They make up for 40.90% of student population, followed by Asians (38.06%), Hispanics (8.51%), African Americans (5.52%), Two or More Races (5.22%) and Native Americans (1.64%).
The student population at Sonntag Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 38.99%, followed by African Americans (22.22%), Asians (16.37%), Hispanics (14.42%) and Two or More Races (7.80%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Scott Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 8.21% compared to 29.24% at Sonntag Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Scott Elementary School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 10.90% of its student population compared to 11.50% at Sonntag Elementary School.
Scott Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 10.75%, gifted and talented students, 6.12%, while 13.13% are in the special education program. Sonntag Elementary School bilingual students comprise 11.31%, gifted and talented students, 3.12%, and 15.98% are in the special education program.
38 teachers employed at Scott Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.4 years. The 42 teachers at Sonntag Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 5.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11 years.
Of its teaching staff, Scott Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has one teacher only serving the school for 20-30 years, 16 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only. Sonntag Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 17 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Scott Elementary School there are 36 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by eight teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and five more working as school support staff.
At Sonntag Elementary School there are 38 female teachers and four male teachers. Of its teaching staff, ten special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
