School For The Talented And Gifted’s regular student population is 502 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at David W Carter High School is 1,129 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.7 students/teacher ratio.
School For The Talented And Gifted performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 99 in student achievement, 99 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 97 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, David W Carter High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 61 in student achievement, 78 in school progress, 62 in closing performance gaps and 70 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. School For The Talented And Gifted bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. David W Carter High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at School For The Talented And Gifted. They make up for 38.25% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (31.47%), Asians (18.33%), African Americans (7.97%), Two or More Races (2.79%) and Native Americans (0.60%).
At David W Carter High School, African Americans make up 67.23% of student population, followed by Hispanics (30.56%), Whites or Caucasians (1.33%), Two or More Races (0.44%), Native Americans (0.18%) and Asians (0.09%).
Based on household incomes, the School For The Talented And Gifted’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 38.45% compared to 91.14% at David W Carter High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, School For The Talented And Gifted has 22 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.38% of student population. David W Carter High School has significantly more ELLs at 239 or about 21.17% of student population.
School For The Talented And Gifted’s bilingual students comprise 4.78%, gifted and talented students, 81.47%, while 1.99% are in the special education program. David W Carter High School bilingual students comprise 19.04%, gifted and talented students, 10.19%, and 17.18% are in the special education program.
School For The Talented And Gifted's 26 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.6 years. David W Carter High School's 72 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 11.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, School For The Talented And Gifted has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, ten teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. David W Carter High School has six teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 11 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 25 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 15 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. School For The Talented And Gifted employs 15 female teachers and 11 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, one teacher is aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs one staff members in the school administration department and one more working as school support staff.
