Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Scarborough Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Martinez R Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Scarborough Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Science. Martinez R Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Scarborough Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 97.20% of student population, followed by African Americans (1.97%), Whites or Caucasians (0.66%) and Two or More Races (0.16%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.

Based on household incomes, the Scarborough Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 96.05% compared to 97.60% at Martinez R Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Scarborough Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 63.65% of its student population compared to 33.55% at Martinez R Elementary School.
Scarborough Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 75.66%, gifted and talented students, 4.11%, while 5.26% are in the special education program. Martinez R Elementary School bilingual students comprise 30.94%, gifted and talented students, 3.05%, and 9.80% are in the special education program.
