Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Robinson Middle School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Haggard Middle School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Robinson Middle School’s regular student population is 998 with a 17 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Haggard Middle School is 781 students and a 14.3 students/teacher ratio.
Robinson Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 93 in closing performance gaps. It scored 93 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Haggard Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 84 in student achievement, 85 in school progress, 83 in closing performance gaps and 84 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Robinson Middle School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Social Studies and post-secondary. Haggard Middle School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Robinson Middle School. They make up for 36.37% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (30.16%), Hispanics (15.93%), African Americans (11.92%), Two or More Races (4.91%) and Native Americans (0.50%).
At Haggard Middle School, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 56.34% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.25%), Asians (9.60%), African Americans (7.81%), Two or More Races (4.61%) and Native Americans (0.38%).
Based on household incomes, the Robinson Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 21.44% compared to 24.58% at Haggard Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Robinson Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 8.12% of its student population compared to 6.27% at Haggard Middle School.
Robinson Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 7.92%, gifted and talented students, 26.55%, while 9.12% are in the special education program. Haggard Middle School bilingual students comprise 6.15%, gifted and talented students, 24.58%, and 14.34% are in the special education program.
Robinson Middle School's 58 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.6 years. Teachers at Haggard Middle School, numbering 54 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.5 years.
