Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Poe Elementary School and Port Houston Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Poe Elementary School. They make up for 35.84% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (34.57%), Asians (11.35%), African Americans (9.69%) and Two or More Races (8.29%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Port Houston Elementary School, Hispanics make up 95.13% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (2.62%), African Americans (1.87%) and Native Americans (0.37%). There is no Asians and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Poe Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 30.36% compared to 99.25% at Port Houston Elementary School.

Port Houston Elementary School has more ELLs at 189 or about 70.79% of student population.
Poe Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 23.60%, gifted and talented students, 16.45%, while 4.97% are in the special education program. Port Houston Elementary School bilingual students comprise 70.79%, gifted and talented students, 10.11%, and 7.87% are in the special education program.
