As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. When we compared Plano Sr High School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Jasper High School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Plano Sr High School’s regular student population is 2,446 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.8 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Jasper High School is 1,252 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.1 students/teacher ratio.
Plano Sr High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 84 in school progress and 77 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Jasper High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 94 in student achievement, 87 in school progress, 87 in closing performance gaps and 92 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Plano Sr High School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Jasper High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Plano Sr High School. They make up for 40.27% of student population, followed by Hispanics (24.94%), Asians (17.05%), African Americans (12.92%), Two or More Races (4.37%) and Native Americans (0.37%).
The student population at Jasper High School is also predominantly by Asians at 49.20%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.80%), Hispanics (10.94%), African Americans (9.42%), Two or More Races (4.15%) and Native Americans (0.40%).
Based on household incomes, Plano Sr High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 30.91% compared to 19.01% at Jasper High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Plano Sr High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 9.16% of its student population compared to 5.19% at Jasper High School.
In addition, Plano Sr High School has 8.63% bilingual students, 23.02% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.12% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Jasper High School with 5.11% bilingual students, 37.62% gifted and talented students and 6.31% students in the special education program.
Plano Sr High School's 155 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12 years. Jasper High School's 73 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Plano Sr High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 23 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 52 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 32 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 31 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 12 beginning teachers. Jasper High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has ten teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 22 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 17 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Plano Sr High School employs 92 female teachers and 62 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 38 special education teachers are being assisted by 14 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs nine staff members in the school administration department and 15 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Jasper High School employs 48 female teachers and 24 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 12 special education teachers are being assisted by six teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and nine more working as school support staff.
