As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. When we compared Paetow High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Jordan High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Paetow High School’s regular student population is 3,130 with a student-teacher ratio of 18.1 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Jordan High School is 1,933 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.5 students/teacher ratio.
Paetow High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 82 in student achievement, 84 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 82 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Jordan High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 95 in student achievement, 87 in school progress, 89 in closing performance gaps and 93 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Jordan High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Paetow High School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Paetow High School. They make up for 48.79% of student population, followed by African Americans (25.34%), Whites or Caucasians (14.44%), Asians (6.74%), Two or More Races (3.99%) and Native Americans (0.48%).
The student population at Jordan High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 35.90%, followed by Hispanics (27.37%), Asians (23.38%), African Americans (9.57%), Two or More Races (3.57%) and Native Americans (0.10%).
Based on household incomes, Paetow High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 54.76% compared to 14.54% at Jordan High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Paetow High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 12.91% of its student population compared to 5.90% at Jordan High School.
In addition, Paetow High School has 12.11% bilingual students, 2.72% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.47% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Jordan High School with 5.64% bilingual students, 16.61% gifted and talented students and 6.98% students in the special education program.
Paetow High School's 173 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 3.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 8.5 years. Jordan High School's 116 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Paetow High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 49 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 43 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 56 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 16 beginning teachers. Jordan High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 12 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 32 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 35 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 27 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Paetow High School employs 99 female teachers and 73 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 18 special education teachers are being assisted by 23 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 23 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Jordan High School employs 69 female teachers and 47 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 16 more working as school support staff.
