When we compared Oakley Elementary School, which is a part of NEW CANEY ISD, with Valley Ranch Elementary School, which is a part of NEW CANEY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Oakley Elementary School has a regular student population of 777 with a 16.4 students/teacher ratio while Valley Ranch Elementary School has 810 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.9 students/teacher ratio.
Oakley Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 58 in student achievement, 77 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. It scored 76 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Valley Ranch Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 72 in student achievement, 86 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 83 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Oakley Elementary School and Valley Ranch Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Oakley Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 69.11% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.74%), Two or More Races (2.45%), African Americans (1.29%), Asians (0.77%) and Native Americans (0.39%).
The student population at Valley Ranch Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 51.48%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (37.78%), Two or More Races (4.57%), African Americans (3.95%), Asians (1.60%) and Native Americans (0.49%).
Based on household incomes, Oakley Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 84.04% compared to 60.49% at Valley Ranch Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Oakley Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 53.02% of its student population compared to 26.54% at Valley Ranch Elementary School.
Oakley Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 57.53%, gifted and talented students, 3.35%, while 8.88% are in the special education program. Valley Ranch Elementary School bilingual students comprise 32.96%, gifted and talented students, 1.48%, and 11.48% are in the special education program.
47 teachers employed at Oakley Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 4.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9 years. The 50 teachers at Valley Ranch Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 5.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Oakley Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 18 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 14 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers.
