Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Northrich Elementary School, which is a part of RICHARDSON ISD, with Skyview Elementary School, which is a part of RICHARDSON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Northrich Elementary School has a regular student population of 331 with a 10.2 students/teacher ratio while Skyview Elementary School has 696 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.5 students/teacher ratio.
Northrich Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 73 in student achievement, 85 in school progress and 77 in closing performance gaps. It scored 83 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Skyview Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 60 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 71 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Northrich Elementary School and Skyview Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Northrich Elementary School. They make up for 44.11% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.28%), African Americans (20.24%), Two or More Races (8.16%) and Asians (1.21%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Skyview Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 49.43%, followed by Hispanics (32.47%), Asians (10.34%), Whites or Caucasians (6.03%), Two or More Races (1.29%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
Based on household incomes, the Northrich Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 67.98% compared to 90.80% at Skyview Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Northrich Elementary School has 88 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.59% of student population. Skyview Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 299 or about 42.96% of student population.
Northrich Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 25.98%, gifted and talented students, 4.23%, while 22.96% are in the special education program. Skyview Elementary School bilingual students comprise 42.96%, gifted and talented students, 3.30%, and 12.21% are in the special education program.
32 teachers employed at Northrich Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 5.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.8 years. The 60 teachers at Skyview Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 3.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, Northrich Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, five teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers. Skyview Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, ten teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 16 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Northrich Elementary School there are 31 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and six more working as school support staff.
At Skyview Elementary School there are 45 female teachers and 14 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, seven special education teachers are being assisted by 14 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has four staff members in the school administration department and nine more working as school support staff.
