As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. When we compared Nimitz High School, which is a part of ALDINE ISD, with Eisenhower High School, which is a part of ALDINE ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Nimitz High School’s regular student population is 2,740 with a student-teacher ratio of 17 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Eisenhower High School is 2,785 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.6 students/teacher ratio.
Nimitz High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 68 in student achievement, 73 in school progress and 65 in closing performance gaps. It scored 71 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Eisenhower High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 62 in student achievement, 68 in school progress, 63 in closing performance gaps and 67 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Nimitz High School and Eisenhower High School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Nimitz High School. They make up for 50.36% of student population, followed by African Americans (43.21%), Whites or Caucasians (2.96%), Two or More Races (1.35%), Asians (0.91%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
At Eisenhower High School, Hispanics make up 70.20% of student population, followed by African Americans (25.28%), Whites or Caucasians (1.83%), Asians (1.58%), Two or More Races (1.01%) and Native Americans (0.11%).
Based on household incomes, the Nimitz High School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 85.11% compared to 86.46% at Eisenhower High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Nimitz High School has 439 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 16.02% of student population. Eisenhower High School has significantly more ELLs at 846 or about 30.38% of student population.
In addition, Nimitz High School has 15.58% bilingual students, 2.96% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.22% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Eisenhower High School with 29.01% bilingual students, 4.99% gifted and talented students and 8.29% students in the special education program.
Nimitz High School's 160 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.7 years. Eisenhower High School's 158 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Nimitz High School has seven teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 19 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 39 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 30 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 55 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 11 beginning teachers. Eisenhower High School has seven teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 22 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 32 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 33 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 42 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 23 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Nimitz High School employs 91 female teachers and 69 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 23 special education teachers are being assisted by 16 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs 11 staff members in the school administration department and 31 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Eisenhower High School employs 84 female teachers and 73 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 20 special education teachers are being assisted by 17 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs ten staff members in the school administration department and 31 more working as school support staff.
