Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Mt Valley Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Clear Spring Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Mt Valley Elementary School is Whites or Caucasians who make up nearly 67.85% of student population, followed by Hispanics (26.16%), Two or More Races (4.21%), African Americans (0.67%), Asians (0.67%) and Native Americans (0.44%).
At Clear Spring Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 56.26% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (36.66%), Two or More Races (3.16%), African Americans (2.78%), Asians (0.88%) and Native Americans (0.13%).
Based on household incomes, Mt Valley Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 50.78% compared to 49.18% at Clear Spring Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mt Valley Elementary School has 19 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.21% of student population. Clear Spring Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 156 or about 19.72% of student population.
In addition, Mt Valley Elementary School has 4.21% bilingual students, 7.32% are in the gifted and talented program, while 26.16% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Clear Spring Elementary School with 22.88% bilingual students, 8.98% gifted and talented students and 9.99% students in the special education program.
