Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Meyer Elementary School, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, with Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Meyer Elementary School has a regular student population of 624 with a 14.4 students/teacher ratio while Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center has 210 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16 students/teacher ratio.
Meyer Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 62 in student achievement, 83 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Meyer Elementary School and Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Meyer Elementary School. They make up for 59.13% of student population, followed by African Americans (26.28%), Whites or Caucasians (8.65%), Asians (3.04%), Two or More Races (2.56%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
At Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center, Hispanics make up 84.29% of student population, followed by African Americans (12.38%), Whites or Caucasians (2.38%) and Two or More Races (0.95%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Meyer Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 79.49% compared to 92.86% at Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Meyer Elementary School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 16.51% of its student population compared to 45.71% at Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center.
Meyer Elementary School 21.79% are in the special education program, 5.93% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 16.35% students. Juan Seguin Early Childhood Center has no gifted and talented student, while 2.38% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 45.71% students.

In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Meyer Elementary School there are 41 female teachers and two male teachers.
