When we compared Memorial High School, which is a part of SPRING BRANCH ISD, with Northbrook High School, which is a part of SPRING BRANCH ISD, we noted that the two schools are on opposite ends of the ratings spectrum.
Memorial High School’s regular student population is 2,531 with a student-teacher ratio of 16.8 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Northbrook High School is 2,622 students and a student-teacher ratio of 19.1 students/teacher ratio.
Memorial High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 94 in student achievement, 84 in school progress and 86 in closing performance gaps. It scored 92 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Northbrook High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 64 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, 47 in closing performance gaps and 65 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Memorial High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Northbrook High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Memorial High School. They make up for 53.65% of student population, followed by Hispanics (22.72%), Asians (16.63%), Two or More Races (4.39%), African Americans (2.41%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
At Northbrook High School, Hispanics make up 90.96% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.97%), Whites or Caucasians (3.01%), Asians (0.99%), Two or More Races (0.57%) and Native Americans (0.46%).
Based on household incomes, the Memorial High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 14.22% compared to 80.28% at Northbrook High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Memorial High School has 164 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 6.48% of student population. Northbrook High School has significantly more ELLs at 1282 or about 48.89% of student population.
Memorial High School’s bilingual students comprise 6.01%, gifted and talented students, 22.72%, while 5.57% are in the special education program. Northbrook High School bilingual students comprise 47.64%, gifted and talented students, 3.20%, and 10.76% are in the special education program.
Memorial High School's 150 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 14 years. Northbrook High School's 137 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Memorial High School has 11 teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 26 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 50 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 31 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 28 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. Northbrook High School has seven teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 18 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 34 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 30 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 41 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including eight beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Memorial High School employs 83 female teachers and 66 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, seven special education teachers are being assisted by eight teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and 16 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Northbrook High School employs 75 female teachers and 61 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs seven staff members in the school administration department and 15 more working as school support staff.
