Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Memorial Elementary School and Mendenhall Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Memorial Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 74.70% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (12.53%), African Americans (8.67%), Two or More Races (2.41%), Asians (1.45%) and Native Americans (0.24%).
At Mendenhall Elementary School, Hispanics make up 71.28% of student population, followed by African Americans (12.28%), Whites or Caucasians (9.86%), Two or More Races (4.15%), Asians (2.25%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, the Memorial Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 74.46% compared to 76.82% at Mendenhall Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Memorial Elementary School has 235 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 56.63% of student population. Mendenhall Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 342 or about 59.17% of student population.
Memorial Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 55.42%, gifted and talented students, 5.78%, while 14.46% are in the special education program.
