Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Meadows Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Meadows Elementary School has a regular student population of 389 with a 12.8 students/teacher ratio while Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School has 1,120 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.1 students/teacher ratio.
Meadows Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Meadows Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Meadows Elementary School. They make up for 39.85% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (27.51%), Asians (18.77%), African Americans (10.54%) and Two or More Races (3.34%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School, Asians make up 66.88% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (10.71%), African Americans (10.54%), Hispanics (5.80%), Two or More Races (5.09%) and Native Americans (0.71%).
Based on household incomes, Meadows Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 57.07% compared to 14.20% at Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Meadows Elementary School has 115 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 29.56% of student population. Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 223 or about 19.91% of student population.
In addition, Meadows Elementary School has 28.79% bilingual students, 2.06% are in the gifted and talented program, while 14.40% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary School with 19.82% bilingual students, 14.91% gifted and talented students and 7.23% students in the special education program.
