Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Katy Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science and 25% closing performance gaps. McElwain Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at McElwain Elementary School. They make up for 44.79% of student population, followed by African Americans (22.49%), Whites or Caucasians (17.18%), Asians (9.60%), Two or More Races (5.76%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
At Katy Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians make up 66.82% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.92%), African Americans (5.94%), Two or More Races (2.89%), Asians (1.52%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
Based on household incomes, McElwain Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 42.14% compared to 21.61% at Katy Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, McElwain Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 21.85% of its student population compared to 4.87% at Katy Elementary School.
In addition, McElwain Elementary School has 21.02% bilingual students, 1.83% are in the gifted and talented program, while 14.53% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Katy Elementary School with 4.72% bilingual students, 5.63% gifted and talented students and 23.44% students in the special education program.
