Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared McAuliffe Elementary School, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, with Flower Mound Elementary School, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
McAuliffe Elementary School has a regular student population of 547 with a 12.9 students/teacher ratio while Flower Mound Elementary School has 498 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.3 students/teacher ratio.
McAuliffe Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 89 in closing performance gaps. On the other hand, Flower Mound Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 74 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for McAuliffe Elementary School and Flower Mound Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in McAuliffe Elementary School is Whites or Caucasians who make up nearly 80.99% of student population, followed by Hispanics (9.87%), Two or More Races (3.66%), African Americans (2.93%), Asians (2.19%) and Native Americans (0.37%).
At Flower Mound Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 58.63% of student population, followed by Hispanics (15.26%), Asians (14.06%), Two or More Races (8.03%), African Americans (3.41%) and Native Americans (0.60%).
Based on household incomes, the McAuliffe Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 5.85% compared to 15.06% at Flower Mound Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, McAuliffe Elementary School has 11 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 2.01% of student population. Flower Mound Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 43 or about 8.63% of student population.
McAuliffe Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 1.83%, gifted and talented students, 4.39%, while 23.03% are in the special education program. Flower Mound Elementary School bilingual students comprise 8.43%, gifted and talented students, 3.61%, and 25.90% are in the special education program.

The 40 teachers at Flower Mound Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 10.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 13.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, McAuliffe Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 16 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while seven teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers.
