Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy has a regular student population of 426 with a 13.6 students/teacher ratio while W W Bushman Elementary School has 340 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy’s five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. W W Bushman Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy. They make up for 62.68% of student population, followed by Hispanics (33.57%), Two or More Races (1.88%), Whites or Caucasians (0.94%) and Native Americans (0.94%). There is no Asians student in the school.
The student population at W W Bushman Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 52.65%, followed by Hispanics (37.35%), Asians (6.76%), Whites or Caucasians (1.47%), Two or More Races (1.47%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
Based on household incomes, the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 94.84% compared to 97.94% at W W Bushman Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, 26.29% of students at Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy are English Language Learners (ELL). On the other hand, W W Bushman Elementary School’s ELL comprise 32.94% of the school’s student population.
In addition, Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy has 27.70% bilingual students, 16.90% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.22% are in the special education program. This stacks up against W W Bushman Elementary School with 33.24% bilingual students, 19.41% gifted and talented students and 4.71% students in the special education program.
