Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Mance Park Middle School, which is a part of HUNTSVILLE ISD, with Huntsville Intermediate, which is a part of HUNTSVILLE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Mance Park Middle School’s regular student population is 896 with a 13.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Huntsville Intermediate is 809 students and a 14.6 students/teacher ratio.
Mance Park Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 69 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 85 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Huntsville Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 65 in student achievement, 79 in school progress, 73 in closing performance gaps and 77 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Mance Park Middle School's one out of seven distinction is in with 25% student progress. Huntsville Intermediate did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Mance Park Middle School. They make up for 38.84% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (31.92%), African Americans (25.78%), Two or More Races (1.90%), Asians (1.23%) and Native Americans (0.22%).
The student population at Huntsville Intermediate is also predominantly by Hispanics at 35.97%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (34.98%), African Americans (26.33%), Two or More Races (1.61%), Native Americans (0.62%) and Asians (0.49%).
Based on household incomes, Mance Park Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 66.29% compared to 64.77% at Huntsville Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mance Park Middle School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 18.86% of its student population compared to 19.65% at Huntsville Intermediate.
In addition, Mance Park Middle School has 17.08% bilingual students, 4.80% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.82% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Huntsville Intermediate with 18.29% bilingual students, 5.19% gifted and talented students and 18.91% students in the special education program.
Mance Park Middle School's 64 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 4.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.4 years. Teachers at Huntsville Intermediate, numbering 55 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 4.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 7 years.
Of its teaching staff, Mance Park Middle School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 21 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 15 beginning teachers. Huntsville Intermediate has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, eight teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 32 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Mance Park Middle School there are 43 female teachers and 20 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, four special education teachers are being assisted by 14 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has six staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
At Huntsville Intermediate there are 43 female teachers and 11 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, three special education teachers are being assisted by 21 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
