Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only two distinction designations or awards for performance. For Loraine T Golbow Elementary School these are in post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps while Roosevelt Alexander Elementary School secured in Science and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Loraine T Golbow Elementary School. They make up for 42.32% of student population, followed by African Americans (28.49%), Whites or Caucasians (17.00%), Asians (8.91%), Two or More Races (2.70%) and Native Americans (0.35%).
The student population at Roosevelt Alexander Elementary School is also predominantly by Asians at 38.40%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (32.70%), Hispanics (15.60%), African Americans (7.40%), Two or More Races (5.50%) and Native Americans (0.10%).
Based on household incomes, Loraine T Golbow Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 71.40% compared to 19.20% at Roosevelt Alexander Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Loraine T Golbow Elementary School has 255 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 29.89% of student population. Roosevelt Alexander Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 296 or about 29.60% of student population.
In addition, Loraine T Golbow Elementary School has 29.07% bilingual students, 1.29% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.94% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Roosevelt Alexander Elementary School with 27.70% bilingual students, 10.20% gifted and talented students and 14.30% students in the special education program.
