When we compared Leonard Middle School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, with McLean Middle School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Leonard Middle School’s regular student population is 665 with a 13.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at McLean Middle School is 953 students and a 16.4 students/teacher ratio.
Leonard Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365 (Not Rated per SB 1365) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 52 in student achievement, 58 in school progress and 64 in closing performance gaps. It scored 59 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, McLean Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 78 in student achievement, 85 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
McLean Middle School's one out of seven distinction is in Social Studies. Leonard Middle School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Leonard Middle School. They make up for 48.42% of student population, followed by African Americans (36.54%), Whites or Caucasians (10.38%), Two or More Races (3.76%), Asians (0.75%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
At McLean Middle School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 65.69% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (27.18%), African Americans (3.78%), Two or More Races (1.57%), Asians (1.15%) and Native Americans (0.52%).
Based on household incomes, Leonard Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 93.38% compared to 68.00% at McLean Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Leonard Middle School has 179 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.92% of student population. McLean Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 288 or about 30.22% of student population.
In addition, Leonard Middle School has 24.96% bilingual students, 8.42% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.48% are in the special education program. This stacks up against McLean Middle School with 26.55% bilingual students, 28.44% gifted and talented students and 7.14% students in the special education program.
