Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Lantrip Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Lantrip Elementary School has a regular student population of 530 with a 16.4 students/teacher ratio while Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr has 599 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.2 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Lantrip Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr’s two out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Lantrip Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 86.23% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.49%), Whites or Caucasians (3.77%), Asians (0.57%), Two or More Races (0.57%) and Native Americans (0.38%).
At Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr, African Americans are the biggest group, comprising 63.44% of student population, followed by Hispanics (29.38%), Whites or Caucasians (3.51%), Two or More Races (2.67%), Asians (0.67%) and Native Americans (0.33%).
Based on household incomes, the Lantrip Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 85.47% compared to 92.15% at Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Lantrip Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 30.94% of its student population compared to 13.36% at Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr.
In addition, Lantrip Elementary School has 26.79% bilingual students, 10.00% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.00% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Gregory-Lincoln Ed Ctr with 13.69% bilingual students, 10.02% gifted and talented students and 9.02% students in the special education program.
