Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Kreinhop Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Mueller Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Kreinhop Elementary School has a regular student population of 703 with a 14 students/teacher ratio while Mueller Elementary School has 618 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.5 students/teacher ratio.
Kreinhop Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 89 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 89 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Mueller Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 80 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 78 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Kreinhop Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Mueller Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Kreinhop Elementary School. They make up for 34.99% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (33.85%), African Americans (20.77%), Asians (5.26%), Two or More Races (4.69%) and Native Americans (0.28%).
The student population at Mueller Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 31.39%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (23.95%), African Americans (19.74%), Asians (18.77%), Two or More Races (4.85%) and Native Americans (0.49%).
Based on household incomes, Kreinhop Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 50.92% compared to 39.81% at Mueller Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Kreinhop Elementary School has 78 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.10% of student population. Mueller Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 105 or about 16.99% of student population.
In addition, Kreinhop Elementary School has 10.81% bilingual students, 4.13% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.66% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Mueller Elementary School with 16.02% bilingual students, 4.85% gifted and talented students and 14.89% students in the special education program.
50 teachers employed at Kreinhop Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 9.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14.1 years. The 42 teachers at Mueller Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.7 years.
Of its teaching staff, Kreinhop Elementary School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has eight teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 19 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while eight teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only. Mueller Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has one teacher only serving the school for 20-30 years, 23 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, seven teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while nine teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Kreinhop Elementary School there are 48 female teachers and two male teachers. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and five more working as school support staff.
At Mueller Elementary School there are 41 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
